This trail was named after Sir Murray Maclehose,-the longest serving British Governor in Hong Kong (19 November 1971 to April 1982)who himself established the trail along with many other significant political, economical,industrial, cultural and agricultural reforms he contributed to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.
Maclehose Trail covers 100 kilometers of roads, rugged stone paths, beaches, hills and mountains from Saikung to Tuen Mun.
It was divided into 10 stages.
